2008 Forensic Field School

Dates: Monday June 16 thru Thursday July 3, 2008 Location of Field School: Ohio State University Campus, Columbus, Ohio. Project Directors: Dr. Sam Stout & Jules Angel, PhDc. PAST Field School Fee: $750 per person plus 5 Credit Hours Ohio State University tuition (paid separately). Accepted students will enroll in OSU Course ANTH 685.

Description: The Forensic Field School is an in-depth course covering all aspects of forensic investigation. Over the course of three weeks participants will learn excavation, documentation and analysis techniques, as well as techniques for legally presenting results. The field school combines in the field and in the lab day-long classes.

Clark Spencer Larsen, chair and professor of the Department of Anthropology, is the recipient of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists' (AAPA) Gabriel W. Lasker Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the field of anthropology and to the AAPA. (pdf)

PROFESSOR GUIDES OSU FORENSIC ARCHAEOLOGY TEAM

In two separate, unsolved murder cases, police have called on Ohio State's Forensic Archaeology Cold Case Team to help search for and identify human remains. The Department of Anthropology formed the team two years ago to provide assistance to law enforcement and other agencies in the recovery and analysis of human remains. FACCT is under the direction of Professor Sam Stout and comprises both undergraduate and graduate students interested in forensic anthropology who volunteer their time. Read more >
